The Free Form Fitness Fundraiser
“the energy in the room felt exactly like what we try to build every day”
On September 10th, more than 130 members, friends and family of Ottawa-based Free Form Fitness came together to celebrate 20 amazing years of Free Form Fitness delivering the best in personal fitness training within the Ottawa market. Early in the event planning process, the Free Form Fitness management team decided that the evening of celebration should also be about giving back, selecting the Miroir Foundation as the beneficiary of the event’s fundraising activities.
And the result? We see it as a resounding success for two reasons: 1) The energy in the room felt exactly like what we try to build every day at the Miroir Foundation: connection, and 2) together, more than $5,000 was raised to go towards future Miroir Foundation supported programs that will build social connection and reduce chronic loneliness among older adults.
“having a good quality of life, in my world, is about choice”
Miroir Foundation President, Linda Garcia was at the celebration event and shared a few words to thank Free Form Fitness for their support and to enlighten the attendees about the need for social connection as a critical part of wellbeing:
“For 20 years, Free Form Fitness has helped people stay strong, active and involved in life. But we all know that wellbeing is way more than just about strong, toned bodies. Having a good quality of life, in my world, is about choice and about having somewhere safe to live, something meaningful to do and someone to care about, and someone who cares about you. In fact, it includes having somewhere to go, people who know your name and a community that notices when you are not there. That sense of connection matters to all of us, at every age.”
Linda was joined at the event by several of her fellow Miroir Foundation board members: Sarah Dehler, Afia Drah, Haniya Habibollahi as well as volunteer, Ishika Tripathi.
The event was supported by raffle prize sponsors who donated amazing “experiences” available to be won by event attendees. The Miroir Foundation is extremely appreciative of the support from the following organizations for their generosity:
